Nudes

The female nude form has fascinated visual artists throughout time. The artist in Mary is no exception. Because of the simplicity of each drawing, her keen ability to create a true to life image with just a few carefully placed lines is apparent.

She once mentioned that there is a correlation in the curvature of a female derriere and a horse’s haunches. In one of her oil paintings of a nude woman next to a horse, this is readily apparent.

The Elias house was popular, as there were nine Elias children. Several of Mary’s sisters are also visual artists. After visiting the house some neighbor kids ran home and said “Mom, they have a lot of pictures of naked women over there”.
